Chums Charity
What our donation will help fund
The £10,000 grant will fund four programmes for vulnerable children and young people. Each programme lasts 7 weeks and engages children in a meaningful and enjoyable activity alongside a therapeutic intervention to support their mental health and emotional wellbeing, build resiliency and develop strategies for coping with difficulties.
The pandemic has increased anxiety, behavioural difficulties and disengagement referrals into CHUMS and waiting times have increased. Many children and young people would therefore benefit from a supportive containing space to develop coping strategies and build resilience. These programmes are for 8 to 11-year-old disengaged and vulnerable young people – many of whom feel isolated, lonely or anxious, have friendship difficulties or are being bullied. These programmes were designed to support those who cannot readily engage in traditional talking therapies. We will be able to support up to 40 children and young people in this initial phase. We are ready to expand both the number of programmes and the offer to younger children as soon as we are successful with further funding.
