StreetVet
What our donation will help fund
StreetVet’s Cornwall team provides free veterinary care across the county to 342 registered clients through 12 volunteer vets and vet nurses. Demand has doubled in the past year, stretching our outreach services, which are conducted in collaboration with social care providers. Over three-quarters of Cornwall’s neighbourhoods are more deprived than the national average, increasing the need for our services.
This project addresses the critical need for accessible veterinary care for the pets of those experiencing homelessness in Cornwall. Beneficiaries include rough sleepers, homeless hostel residents, those in temporary accommodation, and individuals facing hardships such as domestic violence, relationship breakdowns, and the cost of living crisis. The project aims to overcome barriers to vet care, including financial constraints and societal judgment, ensuring pets receive the care they need and deserve.
The grant will enable StreetVet to maintain and expand its services in Cornwall, potentially opening new locations if needed. It will also allow us to provide more “out of area” support, where most of our veterinary costs are incurred. This funding will help us meet the increasing demand, provide essential veterinary care, and improve the lives of pets and their owners experiencing homelessness.
