Thames21 is an environmental charity that works with communities to restore and look after rivers, water and nature across London and the Thames Basin.

What our donation will help fund

Rivers need help and now is the time to act! Rivers in England are in poor ecological and chemical health. This devastating situation has rightly been gaining both media and public attention in recent months.

Thames21 is using this awareness to support communities to Reclaim Our Rivers for swimming and playing. Thames21 will support local communities to apply for DEFRA’s Designated Bathing Water Status at popular swimming spots in Henley and Pangbourne. Thames21 will work with the community to gather the evidence needed for the application. This means that the community engage in a process that can bring benefits to their local river. Reclaim Our Rivers creates a system for local and regional campaigns and advocacy to support the community to address issues at their parts of the river with relevant agencies.

We aim to increase awareness of water quality, work with stakeholders to address pollution at source, and to advocate for communities to have the data and information to make informed choices and enjoy cleaner and safer rivers.
