This funding will enable Heal to support a crucial role at our first rewilding site in Somerset, our Rewilding Ranger. Our Ranger’s work is essential to Heal's mission to fight climate change and restore nature at scale. He is responsible for working with experts to establish a robust ecological baseline and monitor the site, guiding effective land management interventions, to restore habitats and make land more climate resilient.
A key element of the role is knowledge exchange which involves visiting other projects, hosting peers and, over time, supporting our rewilding consultancy service. This work ensures that Heal's learnings and knowledge are communicated widely and align with best practice.
“At Heal, our mission is to return land to nature, forever - restoring wildlife, tackling the climate crisis and helping people reconnect with the natural world. This grant will directly support our Rewilding Ranger, a role at the heart of transforming depleted land into thriving habitats. By applying evidence-based rewilding methods, from natural regeneration to species reintroduction, we can bring ecosystems back to life and deliver wider benefits such as carbon capture, flood resilience and community wellbeing. With this support, Heal can accelerate nature recovery in England and inspire more landowners and communities to join the movement for a wilder, more resilient future.”
